This is the actual nomenclature of the clamp I referred to. You can determine whether this inexpensive update has been performed very easily. The link below connects to a picture of it from eEuroparts website.
If it has been installed, you can see it:
1) by lifting up the back seat.
2) lift up a circular tab of rug (about 8" in diameter)
3) pry off the circular cover
4) now you can see the top of the fuel pump with hoses and wires connected
5) the top of the retaining clip should be very visible. The two arms push down on two fuel hose connections. The middle has a screw that goes into the top of the fuel pump.
If the retaining clip is not installed, get one. It's a very inexpensive update.
If your fuel pump has the retaining clip installed and there is no sign or smell of gasoline, then the cause of the problem is elsewhere. Here's where a trip to an honest indy will definitely help.
