Since the beginning of the year my '99 9-5 SportWagon, 2.3L, Auto Tranny, has had a stalling problem that has progressively gotten worse. Some of you may have recalled some of my earlier postings over the past several months. Finally the CEL went off and we had a code to go by. My indie, with whom I have been a customer for over 20 years, replaced the MAF as was determined by the Tech II. The next day the stalling problem was worse than ever. Back to the shop! Upon further investigation there was a hugh crack (~2" long through and through)in a hose from the turbo to the throttle body. From the looks of it I'd say this hose had been going bad for some time or about as long as this problem has existed, some 5-6 months. The shop replaced the hose, put the original MAF back in and voila, problem solved! I am now getting 3 more miles per gallon and the transmission shifts a lot smoother. What puzzles me is that the best tech this shop has (SAAB trained Master Tech) didn't pick this up earlier when I brought it in for service. To me (in my personal line of work) I always look for the most simplest answer to a problem before going overboard and changing major parts, especially when the problem can be caused in several areas.
