I've had to replace one of these emblem sets (front and rear) on my 99 9-5 but it did it again on my new 2001 9-5 aero so i went a different route this time.
The chrome stays fine on the emblem it's the enamel color that peels off. So I said lets see what I can do with the emblem as is. Mind you my car is silver and black accents so it works. I masked off the front end of the car and lip edge of the emblem and painted the inlay with satin black enamel paint then painted the griffen head back on the the emblem with a touch up brush (the griffen and lettering is raised so you can see it through the black enamel) then let it harden and I clear coated it. From up close...looks like I drank too much mountain dew and stayed up too late than painted....but from 4 or 5 feet it looks fine
