Really long story only a little bit short...
Had to have the original gas tank replaced 2 years ago on my 1999 9-5 2.3 lpt sedan. Since then, had several instances of gas odors in the interior. Found the fuel pump access cover with sealing grommet under the rear seat had not been properly reseated into the underbody sheet metal. Took the time to make a fuel pipe return/supply line hold down bracket and install this at the same time. For the past 4 months, have been getting "Tighten Gas Cap", CEL's and OBD II readings of "small evaporative leak". Thanx to SaabNet contributors, I looked more closely at the Bosch fuel tank pressure sensor (Way over priced at $135-$265!!) and now noticed that the pedestal base molded to the tank did not seem cracked, but the fastening screw was loose. With much delicate and difficult use of a Torx bit and visegrips, managed to undue the screw and pull off the sensor. Even more surprises - there is one small O ring on the neck that goes down into the pedestal, but there is a recess in the sensor body around the underside edge that sure looks like a rectangular sealing gasket also should be present.. Even more surprises/anger...no hose seemed to be connected to this sensor, like it appears to be in my WIS illustration. Am I wrong? Does this electrically operated sensor vent to some evaporative canister?
Anyway, for now, I've used my favorite "Goop" product to make a sort of gasket beneath the sensor, screwed it back down and see if the odors and fault messages will be gone. Can anybody confirm the missing gasket and required connection to a vapor line? If so, I'm gonna kick some butt down at my local indie's shop!!!!
Thanx,
Kirk D.
