I am in the middle of upgrading / replacing the non-hk system in a 9-5 sedan. Took steps, added 6x9 subs, with an HK Amp that I added the sub wires to, then the head end and eliminated the SAAB amp with another, now looking at other speakers, etc.
Ran wires from the head end to the trunk, mounted the amp there then speaker wires back to the starting amp location. Lots of wires....
The main thing that I wanted was full featured head end, HD, XM, IPOD, AUX, CD, etc. I decided to use a SONY head end because there is good info on the net on it's interconnect and I plan on building an interface from the Saab for steering wheel controls to the Sony (someday...).
Sony has a good (not great) head end system that does sound good. I am looking at the Sony mex-dv2000 eventually, but it is an older unit. It has true 5.1 Dolby. May wait for their next DVD version. Then have to find a place for the monitor(s) and / or get one to put in the dash.....
If price is not an object, Kenwood / Pioneer, other make nice 2 din units that also include BT, NAV, etc.... These are $1k+. Since mine is a 99, I decided to keep the price down. I might be selling it soon.
Not sure what to do with speakers yet. If I can score some low cost HKs, I might go with that, or some Infinities, I have used these in the past with good results.
Please let us know how it turns out.
