PO730 = Incorrect gear ratio.
PO741 = Torque converter clutch circuit performance or stuck on.
That what those codes stand for in the OBDII standard fault codes list,
I've had a major malfunction with my 1999 - 95 two years ago with code PO741 and left me stranded in the city on a Thursday afternoon in peak hour traffic. The trans oil went black and had a burnt smell to it.
PO741 is a problem which I had and the gearbox light would come and go out a few days later I took mine to a well established SAAB Indie shop (20+years on SAAB service) and they could not at that time pull a code !!
so the service tech looked at the NSS harness/connector and re-seated it run a stall test with the Tech2 unit plugged in and still could not replicate the fault. Two weeks later in the city the G.B light went on and being stuck in traffic I could only crawl I had to turn-off and re-start the engine again and that’s when the trans-unit failed it would be in drive and not moving i.e.: neutral. I managed to push the Swedish beast in an empty parking spot. Thankfully I still kept my trusty yr2000 Mitsubishi Mirage and had no problem going to work next day and organising a tow truck.
The best solution would be to have the trans unit exchanged with another recon unit or get your trans unit re-build (expensive option) Also ask which ever dealer/Indie you have the job done at on what warranty period you get on workmanship, miles/Kms, parts ect.. I had to reformat my P.C. so I can't upload any WIS, EPC details at this time. To date after I got my SAAB trans-unit rebuild two years on & 15,333 Kms later I've had no problems with the trans-unit in my car. Worn trans-unit clutch packs can cause a lot of grief so be prepared for the cost and the time for the repair.
All the best !!!
