A lot depends on your driving style and the ride quality you are looking for. Summer performance will give you much better dry adhesion - great if you like aggressive cornering; much less important if you are not pushing it in the twisties. They may also give you a stiffer ride, and shorter lifetime. Depending on the tire, wet performance may suffer.

for example, I use my 9-5 at track days, and really like the Falken Azenis RT-615 (good stiff sidewalls help the cornering). It works well as a streetable track tire - but the ride is harsher, and tire life is shortabout 7000 miles with 8 fairly agressive trackdays in the mix. Wet traction is good, but hydroplane resistance is way down compared to good allseasons.
