From my experience and what others have reported on the 9-5 B/B it does appear that the rear shocks have had much shorter lives than the front struts. There have been a lot of rear failures where the seals just let go when the car was on a body lift. Happened to my son's 9-5. I have not seen any comparisons on early model to late model cars. OEM shocks are subject to quality at the particular supplier so there could have been batches that were not up to snuff.
