With all the tire options out there and opinions and preferences to match, I ended up getting the Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport, size 225/45/17. I've been looking for a while to replace my Michelin Pilot Sports. The Michelins were a good tire and lasted about 40K miles. Boy were they LOUD the last 20K. This time price had a bit more of a consideration than the last time I needed tires. I really wanted to check out the Michelin Pilot Exaltos, but I just could bring myself to spend $190 to $225 a tire. I had Bridgestones before (Potenza S03 Pole Position) on another car and liked them too. But again they are a little on the high side. I didn't know much about the RE760's since they are a new tire, only out for about a year. But reviews seemed positive and at $144 a tire locally ($138 on Tirerack), I thought I'd give them a try.
So far, like most new tires, they are performing quite well. Only time will tell, but so far I like them a lot. They are quiter than the Pilot Sports when new and while not giving up road feel, they seem to handle the springtime roads pretty well (in CT), slightly more forgiving for a low profile tire. Dry handling is great and this afternoon I should be able to check out the wet performance when the rain comes. Despite the funky tread pattern, they are assymetrical, so they give you more rotation options and I think this I why they are quieter. They have a heavier load rating at 94 and this might be great for those of you with sportwagons and hitches.
I will give another review after summer with more detailed impressions, but if you are looking for new tires, take a look at these. For the price and performance expectations, the RE760's should be on the list.
