I’m having a very strange problem with my Air Conditioning. I have been roaming and contributing to forums for a while now, but I haven’t encountered this particular issue before. First, some background and then the problem.
Background:
2 months ago, on a warm day, I realized AC isn’t cooling and compressor is not kicking in. I took it to my indy and diagnosis was that system is low on refrigerant. System was recharged back to specs, but it got cold out again so AC wasn’t used.
Recirculation/dirstribution/blend doors or function properly. Blend door shafts have been upgraded with aluminum stop arms 2 years ago on both sides. No codes display except for random code 22 and strange “reboot” 3-5 minutes after startup in cold weather (flash of display and recalibration uncalled for; battery wasn’t disconnected - it happens every time I start car in the winter).
Issue:
So it got pretty hot again. The AC is acting up. Everything works fine initially when the car starts up and as long as car is idle. The panel vent temp is 8-9C (good). As soon as you press the gas and start varying RPM, the compressor cuts out (click is heard and you can see the pulley stops), and the vent temperature rises to 20C plus. As soon as car is back in idle, compressor kicks back in and air cools down. If the interior was hot when the car was started, ACC turns on recirculation to cool it quicker (normal function). However, the recirculation turns off whenever compressor cuts out, and turns back on when it kicks in, which leads to it switching on/off every 20 seconds! This is not speed dependent option as I did make sure that one was disabled. It happens in conjunction with compressor cutting out which is really unnerving (and since the motor costs $200+, really pisses me off). I took it to my indy (on a cool day unfortunately) and the pressure of refrigerant in the system was still correct (no leak since recharge). However, couldn’t reproduce the problem at that time (and needless to say – he never heard of it).
So, any ideas what it might be? The pressure in the system is fine. Can it be the pressure sensor? Do they happen to fail randomly and then work again, switching the compressor on and off every couple seconds? Can it be compressor itself? Can it be the ACC control unit, which has been acting up with weird reboots for 2 winters in a row already (although AC worked fine last year)?
Please, any ideas? Cause I am completely lost here…
Thanks!
