First off, what's "the PT Cruiser filter"? (Sorry, I don't check the boards as often as I should!) I use the Purolator 20195.
For both the clean & rinse phases of A-Rx I would recommend either a Group II+ or Group III oil.
Good II+ oils (Mobil Delvac 1300 Super, Chevron Delo 400, Castrol Tection Extra) are about $8-$10/gal, so they're more affordable for the multiple short runs involved in A-Rx cycles. Since they're dual rated (approved for both gasoline & diesel engines), they're designed to stand up to turbochargers & have better additive packages.
Better Group III oils (any "synthetic" except Mobil 1, Amsoil, Redline, or anything labeled as synthetic from Europe) will provide better protection while cleaning & rinsing, but cost about double of what II+ does. A full A-Rx sludge application will be quite a bit more pricey. Many folks here (myself included) prefer Shell Rotella T Synthetic above most other Group III oils. Again, this oil is dual rated, so it offers better durability & additive protection than a gasoline-only oil.
Once you're done with A-Rx, you can go back to Amsoil Euro or any other Group IV or Group V oil. If you have a T5 engine, you can go 10,000 miles on the best of these oils & only change the filter at 5,000 miles. If you have a T7 engine you're safer changing everything out at 5,000 mile intervals. And be sure to always keep the oil level at the full mark.
