Saturn L-series engine? Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Wed, 29 Apr 2009 06:09:57 In Reply to: 9-5 engine swap with any other engine?, bobz, Tue, 28 Apr 2009 18:35:56 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The Saturn L series car used a number of components identical to those on the 9-5. Both cars being based off the Opel Omega(?) model.
The Saturn L-series was available with both a 6-cylinder and 4-cylinder engine. It would be very interesting to compare mounting point dimensions for the Saab 9-5 versus Saturn L-series engine cradle/sub-frame. I would not be completely surprised to discover the mounting points to be identical, meaning you could bolt a complete Saturn L-series engine/transmisison/sub-frame unit directly into a 9-5.
You would obviously lose the turbo-charging, and Saturn was never known for fantastic engines (other than the Honda V6's used in the Vue), but it might be possible. A Saturn sub-frame complete with engine and tranny may be fairly cheap.
Does anyone know if the engine cradles are identical?
