Barry: I have had the plastic hood protector on my 9-5 for three winters, and although my hood has less road rash than it would have without it, the five or so little rubber nubs that keep it off the hood end up marring the finish underneath them.I do not know how to avoid this. I think that want hapens is that under way, wind buffeting makes them chatter and gently abraid the surface of the paint. Since little bits of dirt can be under them as well, it adds to the damage.I only have used it diring the NH winter seasons, as cleaning the car with it on is a pain.
All in all, I wold not get it again. If you are protecting the paint in expectations that a perfect hood will add to the value of the car, that's not going to happen. Same ting for those mylar adhesive films like StoneGard or 3M products that cover more than just the hood. YOur car will look better, but will not be worth anymore at trade in time.
