The 17 inch tires (225/45-17) are less than 1.5 percent smaller in diameter than the 16 inch tires (215/55-16). This isn't all that great as noted by others. The fact that the 17s are smaller means that your speedometer and odometer will read slight higher with the 17s. It is up to you if you want to get this reset. I did with my 2003 9-3 convertible when I went from 16 inch wheels (205/55-16 tires) to 17 inch wheels (215/45-17 tires), but then I was in one of the cars free service session and they didn't charge for it.
