A few things you may want to consider....... Posted by Herb Hirsch [Email] (#114) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Herb Hirsch) on Thu, 11 Jun 2009 08:31:20 In Reply to: 60K service, milo, Thu, 11 Jun 2009 07:20:20 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There are a number of things you may have overlooked.
First, look at your owners manual; it does list recommended services that are part of the 60K mile service. I'll highlight some of the key items you may have missed and include a few that you may want to consider that are not listed.
1. Fuel filter - should be done every 30K miles, even though Saab recommends every 60K miles.
2. Flush and replace brake fluid - the cost of not doing this can be very high
3. Cooling system flush - I'd use the pink stuff; it should be done every
five years.
4. Rotate the wheels - do not cross; keep them on the same side. This should be done every 5K miles to maximize tire life and to prevent cupping. While you're at it inspect tires for nails, cuts, bulging, uneven wear, tread depth, tire pressure, etc.
5. Replace serpentine belt and ALL pulleys.
6. Inspect all cooling system hoses for signs of softening or cracking.
7. Inspect all other hoses for signs of cracking or breakage.
8. Inspect exhaust system for signs of leakage, and hanger condition.
9. Replace fluid in automatic transmission - this should be done every 30K miles.
10. Check level of all other fluids.
11. Check all lights
12. Check shocks and struts for leakage.
13. Check underside of vehicle for road damage....particularly brake and fuel lines
14. Check inner and outer drive boots.
15. Check/adjust emergency brake system. Specifically, check the condition of the boots at the end of the cable. These often crack over time and allow moisture to enter; this manifests itself as frozen brakes during the coldest weather when this trapped moisture freezes.
14. Check/replace battery - batteries are known to last a long time in Saab's; if yours is the original you might consider replacing it now, or waiting until you get stuck in the middle of the winter. The economy of waiting is poor. By checking I mean load testing.
15. Lubricate lock cylinders, door/boot/hood hinges, stops, etc.
Others who contribute to this site may add to or modify the summary I've provided; experience leads us to check many things not recommended by Saab.
