It can be a DIY, but it will take some time Posted by jeff02 [Email] (#2992) [Profile/Gallery] (more from jeff02) on Thu, 11 Jun 2009 22:19:47 In Reply to: 2.3LPT turbo removal: straightforward/simple?, Chris, Thu, 11 Jun 2009 08:31:45 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There are some good instructions here and in other sites. I have done this. I would not rebuild unless you have done this already. I would get a rebuilt from the guy on EBAY that only rebuilds turbos. He is easy to find. Make sure that you put some blaster on the exhaust bolts and let it sit for a bit. It is more of an task in patience, getting the right wrench in the right place. I think that I posted some hints on this. Search for ort11 jeff02. I used the old copper washers, but some say to get new. My turbo leaked just a bit for a short time and then they "set in". Having a hand helps. Make sure that you have open end, socket, and even a modified socket (shortened), ratchet closed end, etc as many as you can get to fit them in right. I had to use a jewelers torch to get one of the pipes off. That's it off the head.
