A changer that was not divorced cannot be added to another car.
A Tech 2 can help, but it requires that you have the VIN of the car the changer came from. With that, there is a multiple-step process that can get it to work in your car. What you need to do, as I understand, is to first divorce the target radio from the car it's in, change the VIN of the car to the VIN of the car the changer came from, add the radio back in, then Divorce the changer, then divorce the radio, then change the VIN back to the VIN of the target vehicle, then re-add the radio, then add in the changer. Basically, this is most likely what the company Boomer mentioned does, but probably not with a car, but with the necessary components on a test board.
It's not, probably, a difficult process, but finding someone who will take the time to do it for you is problematic. Also, once you change the VIN to that of the car the changer came out of, the target car won't run, because of the VIN difference in the bus components. And if the tech fat-fingers the VIN while entering it into Tech2, it could take hours to figure that out, and fix it...
So, yes, the changer must be divorced, but if you have the VIN of the vehicle it came from, you can get it divorced so you can use it in your vehicle.
