Recirculation motor is not very durable. Mine was broken when I got the car and I was lucky enough to get my hands on a used unit (new one is $255!). It was broken most likely because previous owner used speed-dependent setting (that's how it was set in my car). If it keeps moving on and off while you go faster/slower, you will most likely fry it (it's a DC motor, not a step one, so it is simply supplied with voltage for certain amount of time, it pushes until the flaps are open/closed, and keeps pushing (!) until the voltage is cut by ACC unit). I just let it engage after starting the car to cool it off in the beginning (normal ACC operation) and then disengage when temp is achieved. It almost never engages in the winter.
