One rattle down, eighty bajillion to go... Posted by B Millar [Email] (#1109) [Profile/Gallery] (more from B Millar) on Sat, 11 Jul 2009 11:36:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I must have picked the short straw because my '04 9-5 rattles everywhere. Incessantly. Sometimes I want to push it off a cliff, other times it's not so bad. With the warmer temperatures though the plastic inlay of the sunroof shade developed a creak. It took literally nothing to set it off. Sitting at idle it would go ee ee ee ee ee. For weeks I have been banging on it, holding it in positions, opening and closing it, slamming it, and cursing at it but nothing has worked. Finally, I ripped it out today. The rear edge was held in by clips, and the leading edge had four screws I was able to access with the sunroof in the tilt position. I just took it around the block, and this particular rattle was GONE. There are tons of others but I'm working on eliminating them one by one. I'm planning on breaking the clip-tabs off (that's where they squeak) and epoxying it back up there someday. Although it doesn't look all that terrible, as it's in the open position concealed behind the headliner most of the time anyway. So those of you with sunroof rattles and squeaks you can't figure out... maybe this will help!
Oh yeah, the sunroof motor cover rattles too so it's removed until I figure some way of keeping it there without the clips. Everywhere there are plastic clips in my car they squeak and rattle. I realize I come off as 100% loony for these bugging me, but whatever. :)
