So here's the rest...
The first center speaker I had in there started buzzing. Replaced with a used speaker. It was better, not perfect. Pulled another out of a junkyard this past weekend. It was worse then the 2nd.
I pulled the fabric cover off the cone on both. The 2nd was badly dry rotted around the cone. The 3rd had a tiny crack, but that's probably where the buzzing is coming from (it buzzed in or out of the mount, buzzing went away as soon as the speaker was unplugged).
So, grabbing the first thing that was in my workshop cabinet I decided to throw a little gasket sealer (Indian Head) around the outside of the cone. My thought process is two-fold. One, it's already broken. Two, it might just seal the outside foam so it doesn't buzz and doesn't break down any more.
The permetex is still drying, but on first test it sounds great. No buzzing during a CD (Maroon 5), no buzzing during NPR, and no buzzing during the weather band.
I'll report back with how it holds up.
Liam
