SERVICE INFORMATION
Improving starting times
Cars affected
Saab 9-5 from M99 VIN X3042510 to M00
Background
If an owner is dissatified with the cranking time
required to start the engine, especially if the fuel level
is below 1/4 tank, improvement may be acheived
by following the procedure described on the following
pages.
Symptoms
Extended cranking time.
Parts required
53 34 198 Spare part kit consisting
of ejector assembly and splicing sleeve
41 60 511 Seal, fuel pump
Procedure
1 Remove the fuel pump following WIS, see group 2.
Engine - Fuel system (petrol) - Adjusting, changing -
Fuel pump.
2 Cut the fuel line as in the illustration. Use a sharp
knife and make sure the line is not pinched together.
3 Remove the ejector from the pump by prying out the
locking tabs (fingers) from the stop lug with a small
screwdriver, turn the ejector 30° and pull it out.
4 Fit the new ejector with check valve to the pump.
Make sure that the locking tabs (fingers) on the ejector
sit correctly in relationship to the stop lug on the
pump.
5 Join the new ejector to the cut fuel line using a quickrelease
coupling. Make sure that the lines are completely
pressed into the coupling.
The quick-release coupling can be removed by
pressing in the blue ring on the end while pulling out
the line.
6 Fit the pump (using a new seal) in the fuel tank following
WIS, see group 2. Engine - Fuel system (petrol) -
Adjusting, changing - Fuel pump.
Important
Be careful not to bend or damage the level sensor
arm.
