I have 2 kids, 6 and 3.5. I have had my Saabs since they were born.
None ever had the "LATCH" systems.
I had rearfacing seats for a while but always looked for a good 'tether point'. Found that the Hinge under the seat was a good place to use to get the base level enough.
The 01 manual suggests using the bar on the bottom of the set in front to be the tether point, but because I am 6'9" and the wife is 5'9", the seat travels too much to make a good tether point.
Once I switched to front facing, I tether the seats to the mount points behind the headrests in the sedan or the load hooks at the back of the wagon ('true' seat retention hooks can be mounted on the back of the set itself, if you can find a dealer with a kit).
Currently, I have Britax seats that are good to up to 110lbs (x 4, 2 per car).
