My 1.8T was a 04' Jetta, with 180 horses, and a 5MT, it flies once the turbo kicks in at around 1800rpm, given the light weight.
Judging from the turbo needle, I suspect the turbo kicks in even at a lower rpm in the 9-5, but then reading from the other posts I tend to believe that it's the ECU that makes the decision in awkward situation.
