Blindspot miror - On driver's side as well?! Weird...

Hi,
I just had my driver's side miror replaced under warranty in my '08 9-5 Aero Wagon (the heater had burnt markings into the miror) and the dealer put in a blind spot miror, similar to the one on the passenger side. The car did not come with it originally, and I'm having trouble adjusting to it. It's as if they put in a UK passenger's side miror or something. My guess is that if the car only came with a blindspot miror on the passenger side, then it shouldn't have it on the driver's side. Can such a miror work in such close proximity to the driver, and if so, why wouldn't it have been standard issue, and if not, do any of you have a similar setup and is it likely I will get used to it and be able to use it safely?
Thanks everyone!
Rob
