New owner of a '99 9-5 SE 2.3 automatic. It has engine/turbo from a MT donor car and the most recent PVC update -- it appears to be sludge free. 126K when purchased from Andrews in Princeton (very fair deal). No oil or ATF leaks in 3 months of ownership. This is a 3rd car for my daughters to drive - and it seemed safer than similar age Camry. I will probably do most maintenance myself and take big stuff to Andrews.
What I have done so far:
1)Noted decreased cabin cooling in mid Aug. Suspected possible slow AC leak, added R134a to 35psi on LP side, will keep checking to be sure
2)ACC was fine at purchase, but four weeks ago heard "noises" and did AUTO/Off calibrate --Intermittent "1 - 08" code, then consistent "08". Blend Door Stop Arm on Driver side was totally gone, so I replaced it (new oem). Now Calibration is fine.
3)Replaced Cabin Air Filter (oem)
4)Replaced Coolant Bypass Valve (oem) on principles learned here
5)Purchased winter tires and wheels for November
Thanks to all who have posted on the ACC issues and Coolant Bypass. Best illustrations for coolant bypass valve replacement came from FixMySAAB, but all the commentary on what, why, when was here. I agree that I would not want to have to do this on the road.
What should my maintenance checklist look like? I am used to having the printed factory shop manuals for cars (VW, Toyota, Honda, Honda, SAAB, Honda, Acura, Honda). My last SAAB was a 1988 9000S MT that we parted with at a little over 250K miles.
What I have on my radar: DIC's are an issue. The water pump won't last forever. Transmission fluid probably should be flushed. Will monitor oil use and change at 3K w. synthetic only. What are other top issues that might make a problem on the road?
Thanks in advance !
