If it is bad and the Tech 2 values shows that when test driving, you can either try to clean it out and see if it improves the values or replace it.
If the cleaning doesn't work, you have to replace it anyway. You can't keep driving with a bad one.
Yes, cleaning the air mass meter has not been a hot topic among us back when the cars were sturdy enough to hold up even when the AMM didn't perform perfectly. Now when cars are so sensitive that a dirty AMM can crack a piston, we just have to adapt to new rules.
