1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I post here every now and then, but read probably once a week. I own a 2002 Saab 95 Aero in black with black leather. It was a car I always wanted and I bought it for myself and my family after selling my company in late 2003. I purchased the car with just under 20k in January 2004. I actually bought it from the guy who works for Christies as the car buyer since he was moving from Mass to NYC (he is on that TV show on Discovery every now and then). It was an easy and good transaction. Since owning the car I have kept every service record. I have also been very liberal on putting mobil 1 oil in the car and I do every manufacturer recommended maintenance . I own a set of winter wheels too as Saab was selling a BBS set with tires for 1k - I purchased these wheels the same time as the car. I also get all my services done at the dealer as there are few indies near me. The car now has 87k miles with the total bill of servicing the car at $6,745.93 - this is from 17k miles in January 2004 till today and 87k.
Here are highlights:
all maintenance packages - e.g., 20k, 40k, 60k and smaller ones - 55k, 70k.
At 87k the engine light kept coming on and blinking when you would go up to speed on highway. Also, front end felt very lose and was in no way tight. Replaced ignition cassette $360, replaced front suspension link arms $188.
Two new front tires at 83k for my summer wheels (installed yoko)
Coolant issue at 73k - replaced heater control valve $250
Big problem at 63k where transmission and clutch basically failed. Complained to GM, took a while and they replaced transmission, lent me a car - I replaced clutch $1,318.00
My hope is to have this car till 150k. The past month had me worried as it felt too lose and my volvo, serviced at the same dealer and it also is a 2002, but with 115k, is much tighter. After the work today it is back to being a stiff car. I tend to the car and vacuum it probably once a month and wash it when need be, maybe once every three weeks.
How happy am I? If I have no more issues with either the clutch or the transmission, which I was worried when the engine light came on, but the issue wasn't related, I will be very happy. 63k is not a long time for a clutch and even less for a transmission, but in the end it was an equitable compromise. The car still drives great - starts with no issue, runs nice, turbo kicks in great, 3rd gear as we all know rocks. Cosmetically it looks great too, though I would get a beige interior going forward. Stereo could use some work and unlike my volvo the lack of ipod integration is a bummer, but the kick in the pants driving compensates.
I hope this helps someone out, let me know if you have any questions.
