C.E.L. at all? (P0116) Posted by JustinHiFi [Email] In Reply to: Temp guage stopped working (briefly), Paul in ABQ, Thu, 1 Oct 2009 16:58:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Did your check engine light come on at all? Trionic 7 will dump the gauge reading to cold if it senses the coolant temp sensor is not reading the correct temperature of the engine. It simulates the correct temp in DICE using the intake air temp and a/f ratio to get an actual value. This value is also sent to the ACC, so will cut out the ac (overheat protection) if this occurs. Usually fault code P0116 will result in Trionic ECM. If so, change the coolant temp sensor and thermostat (use only Genuine Saab parts) Inspect the condition of the upper radiator hose and heater core hose coming from the cylinder head at this time as well. Good time to replace if needed.

Subject: Coolant Gauge Drops With DTC P0116 Setting in a Saab 9-5
Models:
1999-2005 Saab 9-5 Sedan
1999-2005 Saab 9-5 Wagon
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
CONDITION/CONCERN:
A technician may find an intermittent check engine light on and coolant temperature gauge drops to cold while driving. There are usually no concerns of loss of heater performance, although it is possible. T7 ECM stores DTC p0116 for coolant temperature sensor performance.
RECOMMENDATION/INSTRUCTIONS:
Have technician replace the engine coolant thermostat. If T7 ECM detects the engine coolant takes to long to heat up, it will set p0116 and MIU will command the temperature gauge to cold.
