I've been dealing with something similar for a few months now.
With some help (including reinstallation of the original struts) I've determined that it is air in the strut. It makes a sound like thuck or thock.
To correct, remove the strut and hand pump it through a full stroke about ten times while positioned in an upright position (normal operating orientation). If this is the cause, this procedure will help/fix.
If you were careful, it's unlikely you left anything loose. If you you start retightening things you run the risk of stripping bolts or snapping them. Stick to recommended torque specifications.
