3 Questions on front wheel bearing replacement, 2004 Posted by TonyJ [Email] (#407) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TonyJ) on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 18:52:49 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Aero auto wagon, 66K.
1) In hundreds of thousands of 9000 miles, we never had a wheel bearing go bad. Is this also rare in 9-5s?
2) The noise gets louder while turning left and almost goes away when turning hard right. Also, with the car jacked up with no front wheels, the noise appears to come from the right side. Just replaced the intermediate shaft bearing. So I should replace the RIGHT wheel bearing, correct?
3) The Haynes manual tells you to disconnect both the tie rod end and ball joint--is that really necessary or can you just free up the splined shaft and undo the 3 bolts that hold the bearing assembly in?
Thanks in advance.
