Observations/question on alternator replacement Posted by TonyJ [Email] (#407) [Profile/Gallery] (more from TonyJ) on Mon, 12 Oct 2009 19:04:50 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Replacing the intermediate shaft necessitates removing the alternator because it is mounted on the same bracket. But once you do that, you can't get it out of the car! There are 3 openings ALMOST big enough.. alongside the intake manifold, laterally above the intermediate shaft/CV, and underneath next to the exhaust/cat. Sure enough, the Haynes book asks that you remove both the intake manifold and the exhaust, while WIS says to remove the exhaust. IMHO, incredibly poor maintainabilty design! I expected better from Saab. Does anyone have any easier method? The starter motor is smaller and looks like it can be removed from below.
