I've replaced mine twice already....... I replaced the lower idler pulley at 120K and 240K miles. I used a very similar method, using two criss-crossed strips of duct tape securing the bolt to the pulley. Then I use the pulley as a hand-wheel to start the bolt. But remember to double over the ends of both tape strips so you can remove them from the pulley with needle-nose pliers.
The first time it took me 30 minutes to ge the threads engaged properly. The second time it took me only 5 minutes, but I "almost" got it in 30 seconds! So close that I was elated and frustrated simultaneously.
