Weld in generic flex pipe?

My indy (good, but not Saab) suggests welding in a generic flex pipe instead of using an aftermarket new one. He claims the welded in one will last longer and be cheaper overall since the part is cheap and the labor about the same. He thought longevity-wise the rank would be Bosal<Starla/Walker<OEM which makes sense if you believe you get what you pay for. I guess if I weld now and need to change the whole part later, the studs would certainly have to be cut at that point.
Any thoughts on which way to go?
