Well, that's it!
That's the good news - the bad news is how much it rotated. I'd estimate that the crank is about 30 degress ahead of the sprocket. That means that the crank is 15 degrees ahead of the valves - what are the chances of avoiding collision? I think the intakes should be OK, since they open late when the piston is at the top and close late when the piston is at the bottom. The exhausts will open late when the piston is at the bottom, but close late as the piston rises during the exhaust stroke - this is where there might be a problem. I would imagine that if one were to collide, ALL the exhausts probably would since the bad timing is consistant across all cylinders. I don't hear any strange noises as I crank it over by hand, so I'm hopeful.
So I get to take this all apart again, plus that big bolt on the crank looks ominous; hopefully it's already got a 30 degree head start at being loosened! And I'll probably need a puller to get the sprocket off the crank.
The moral of this story is to change the water pump when you change the timing belt...
