2001 9-5 164K, blew white smoke while my son was driving on the highway. Posters suggested a bad head gasket or worse. I haven't pulled the oil pan but when I pulled the head I didn't see any sludge under the valve cover or in the timing chain cover. Cylinder #4 has scratches and the piston has damage. All of the other cylinders & pistons appear to be OK.
My questions: What could have been a probable cause? Is it possible to bore just one cylinder oversize or do I have to match all 4?
I took a pic but I'm not sure how to cut & paste into this message.
