1999-2009 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
i have a 2000 aero which as been excellent except for now,the rear end required shims to adjust the camber. at 121,000 miles .
i was thinking of retiring it due to :
my 2007 which i got on a lease timed to expire at the same time as the new 2010 debuted i have just returned.
my plan was to return the 2007 as scheduled and then get the new 2010 which i drove in europe as the opel insignia .
and the 2000 is now going to require down time for repairs .
and, the saab company ,in my opinion , will be closed in 60 days with the chinese buying the trademark and building the curentt 9.5 in china for the chinese market. it has been reported that the manufacturing equipment for this car is now on the boat to china.
it has also been reported that one of the reasons that koenigg bailed out is not only the loan situation but the major quality / repair problems that the opel insignia is experiencing in europe and thus will be projected to saab and this will result in major warranty claims that they cannot afford .
so where am i ?
i decided to forego saab. it is sadly a lost cause .
but i am keeping my 2000 9.5 aero because it is and was the better of all the aeros produced in terms of quality of components and assembly .
in search for a new car , i looked at the mb s class, the e class ,the bmw 5 and 7 ( no spare tire and run flats so this is out ),the acura rl and tl,
and on a whim i road tested a hyundai genesis 4.6 and 3.8 .
the 4.6 is sort of heavy and good for straight line and an excellent engine.
the v6 is lighter and better around the cones with less understeer .
i ran the cones in a parking lot with both and will stick with the v6 over the v8.
and at under $ 40,000 a great value.
therefore and with regrets, i have no choice but to write off future saab's for now , and move on.
the 2000 9.5 --i am having all potential parts that will fail over the next 20k miles replaced now .
and trust that the shimming of the rear axle will eliminate the tire cupping issue that i have had over the past 50k miles .
and my new 3.8 genesis ,with the hyundai emblems removed and the korean genesis logo in place may carry me over for the next 10 years if i am still around.
10 years ,100k warranty,and 5 /60 bumper to bumper.
but for $ 1,500 i can do the 10 yr 100k warranty bumper to bumper .
so guys , i guess i will back her due to my 2000 aero.
but will be signing in on the genesis owners site ,with many regrets .......
