IMO, I don't care how long they last. I've been through years of different bulbs, and in my experience, and the only better lighting I've achieved was my C900 with 55/100 H4s (Cibie 200mm replacements) with Cibie Oscar + 100 watt H2 bulbs.
If you're worried about the price, shop the 'net! I picked up four pair of the H7 Ultras, and paid less than two pair from a retail store, from a seller on eBay.
Couple them with the E-code lenses (if you have a 98-2001 9-5), and it's darned great lighting for the price.
I have my car set up with the "city lights" (small wedge-based lamp) in the headlights as the DRLs. I can switch the H7s off during the daytime (assuming I remember to do that...).
