I definitely agree it's a huge step forward. No argument there.
I just wonder sometimes how much engineering is designed into getting a great grade from those crash tests. The car companies know what the tests are. I think IIHS, EuroNCAP and safecar.gov need to step up and do tougher tests. There are so few cars now that fail the IIHS test as an example. You really can't compare the safety of one vs another.
On the other hand the culture at SAAB ( at least I like to believe ) is to build a safe car. There are so many little things they do beyond crash safety. A very small example of this is the SAAB accessory hitch we use -engineered into the car, and then the cargo tie offs to secure items in the back.
Wasn't SAAB ahead of the safety curve back in the 90s when 9-5 was introduced. It wasn't until 2010 when Toyota Prius offered active head restraints.
I'm glad SAAB build safe cars. I just hope this continues (not to change the subject).
