Well, my Quatrac 3's had their 1st snow test. I think my town got about 12" over the weekend. I didn't try to get up my driveway without shoveling, but I did drive around the block to try them out in lightly plowed loose packed powder. The tires did very well. TCS comes on more than it used to when my now-departed Nokian Hakka RSI's were new. The Quatrac's also aced a high covered in slush and packed snow this morning on my commute.
So far, my verdict is this: the Quatrac 3 is good in deep snow, very good in slush and packed powder, o.k. on ice, and excellent in dry and wet conditions. For an all-season, I'm quite pleased. Compared with the Nokian WRG2 (about $250 more locally) I suspect the Nokians would do a bit better on ice due to more siping.
The real test will come next winter after a summer of driving on them and some tread wear!
car: 2001 9-5 LPT wagon, standard 16" OEM wheels. Attached is a tread picture.
