I have messed with LED bulbs in my old Porsche, and you have to be careful. Some instrument applications need the light to come from the side of the bulb. LEDs usually light straight off the end of the bulb. So they would be OK for warning lights that need light projected off the end of the bulb. In the Porsche I had to take the instrument lighting bulbs back out. I kept high beam and oil indicators LED.

You can buy LEDs on eBay and other place to fit the Saab. I have used them in heater swiches and seat blower switches and they work well. I even put red ones in the seat heater switch and blue in the blower.
