Ten years on Michigan's salty roads without rust...... I did have to replace the fuel filler door due to a bad paint chip which corroded heavily under my attempted paint repair, but that was/is the only outward sign of corrosion.
Detroit is built atop a salt mine, a local town (Saline) received it's name due to a naturally occuring salt water spring, and Herbert Dow located his company (Dow Chemical) in Midland MI because of readily accessible salt water wells. It is easy to understand why all pavements in south-east Michgan are white with salt dust four months of the year, but my 9-5 is still corrosion free - even after accumulating 264,000 miles of use in 10 years.
