Likely a mechanic and especially at a dealership will only suggest a new ABS pump when in fact they are commonly rebuilt and recycled used. Saved over $1,000 on a gently used low mileage ABS pump for my 1999 BMW R1100RT Motorcycle.
Or just drive without ABS. Statistics since 1986 don't find much if any of a safety advantage for ABS equipped cars. No significantly lower accident or injury rate. You're gonna' hit what you're gonna' hit, brakes locked or ABS working. The extra control in a panic stop isn't worth all that much for the average driver.
As and aside, what does lower accident rates significantly in modern cars is stability systems. They prevent a very high percentage of single car loss of control accidents, spinouts, fishtailing, plowing off the road, that type of thing.
