Appreciate the f/up. Talked to the folks at Genuine today (that's where I bought the 'factory' plug/4-wire harness). Their advice was to dig into both sides as they've seen them in various locations. Took the whole interior out of the back of the car tonight, down to bare metal from the back seat to bumper on both sides......harnesses are single piece, no plugs whatsoever all the way back on both sides. I can see where the harness plug should be (midway across the back of the spare tire compartment so the flat wire/plug can flip out of the gate near the hitch) but no luck. Guess I'll return the factory plug and go with the $12 Walmart universal hoppy diode box. Hard to believe the dealers would splice in the wiring for dealer installed hitches but perhaps there is another way they tap into the vehicle harness.
