glass engineer's perspective...

FYI, the rain-sensor windshields are a different part number compared to standard, plain windshields. Both are available in OEM and aftermarket brands.
From my experience, *I* would probably opt for the OEM Sekurit glass next time I replace my windshield. Haven't been too pleased with my aftermarket glass, and I would assume that Pilkington is one of the best out there. I'm sure that somewhere out there, there's an AEM product that's better than OEM, but for every one of those, there are dozens of ultra-cheap garbage AEM products.
FWIW, I've personally never had a good experience with Safelite. 1st time, they didn't order the right windshield, and it took a week to get the right one ordered. That one cracked from the within the glass (not on the surface), about a month after install. Don't recall what brand that was. Anyway, the Pilkington windshield I have now got really pitted really quickly, and the rain-sensor SUCKS to the point where I can't even use it - I either activate the sweeps myself, or it's on constantly. Also, on my Buick, Safelite cancelled my mobile repair appointment just hours before they were supposed to arrive, because they didn't have my glass in-stock and couldn't order it. They couldn't have told me that the week before when I made the appointment!??!
and yeah, I'm the engineer in charge of all glass at a car factory. I work with glass companies every day. and btw, I see a lot of mention of PPG-brand glass - they've changed their name to "PGW" over a year ago, and pretty much all their glass equipment has been updated by now.
