I had this problem on my 2001 V6. I was going around looking for aftermarket parts and I had my trusted independent mechanic as well as the service writer at Mitchell Saab tell me that aftermarket cats didn't do well in the 9-5. They both told me there had been issues with aftermarkets cooling off too much idling at stop lights for example, and they would throw codes. Luckily for me though the DI cassette recall came out soon after and my 2001 was covered. I was able to prove that the cat failed due to the DI cassette failure and I got a brand new OEM cat (the whole Y-pipe) installed at the dealer for free, on a 160k mile car!!
