My guess is that your engine oil pump produces more pressure than the relief valve setting in the coolant jug cap. The oil coller failed, allowed engine oil into the coolant system, the pressure was higher than the relief valve in the coolant jug cap, and the oil/coolant mix spewed out.
You must have a MAJOR leak in the oil cooler to allow that much oil & pressure into the coolant. I would be very nervous about driving the car because of the potential for lack of oil, not because of lack of cooling.
