DIC question

First of all thanks to everyone that gave me assistance today. I ordered a new DIC from eeuro parts this afternoon. Am now wondering if I made a mistake. The guy I spoke to there said when a DIC fails you will either see oil down in the plug holes or if you take apart your DIC there will be a burnt smell. I have neither. Would appreciate any help before I open the box. If I open it I own it, otherwise I can return it.
