If you promise that no other cars will jut out in front of you and that you have to panic step on the brake pedal, you probably will be fine ;o).
The mechanical pump is there as an aid to give extra vacuum to brake booster at certain conditions and it is used in automatic cars only since those cars have less engine brake (less intake manifold vacuum) during slow down.
It is all up to you to decide.
