The old adage of "You get what you pay for" struck me again. I thought it would be a great idea to buy 100% of the miscellaneous parts necessary to install the new front struts in my car. With all new parts I won't have to disassemble to old strut to reclaim a few parts for re-use - parts that may have failed due to miles and age anyway.
So I ordered KYB brand strut bellows and bump stops as a kit, for under $12 per side. The SAAB branded bellows is $11 and the SAAB branded bump stop is nearly $20 from the least expensive source. KYB is an all right brand. Right?
These final parts arrived today, and don't fit! They aren't even close! The SAAB bump stop is shown as installing adjacent to the strut body, the KYB is a different shape and installs adjacent to the strut mount. Except it won't fit.
The SAAB bellows is a rubber boot with one greatly enlarged end for sealing the upper spring mount. The KYB bellows is plastic material of a constant diameter and won't seal against the spring mount.
From checking catalog photos of other brands, MOOG and Raybestos, everyone uses the same non-SAAB design. Time for another parts order I guess.
