It can all be done from the top with the car still on the ground. You just need to have a 20mm and 17mm socket to remove the one nut and four bolt that hold the upper engine mount in place. With the mount arm off you can see all of the pulleys.
I had no issues with the lower shield, as the one on my car is not all there.
I keep a set of tools in my 9000, which I mainly use to pull parts off cars at the salvage yards.
Then it takes some care to get the mount arm bolted back up. I seat the arm on the center bolt, an put the nut on it. Then I take two of the bolts for the arm and place them into the holes closest to the fender. Then get each one to just thread enough to hold them in the hole. Work each one down a few turns, then do the other one, and repeat until they are just about snug. Then put the outer two bolts in and tighten them down all the way. Then make sure all four bolts and the nut are snug.
